CBI’s 40th Anniversary World Sight Day Gala

Madison, WI – August 26th, 2024 – Combat Blindness International (CBI) is thrilled to announce its 40th Anniversary Gala on Thursday, October 10th, 2024, at The Majestic Theater in Madison, Wisconsin. This landmark event, with Diane Ballweg and Gordon and Gail Derzon as Presenting Sponsors, will honor our four decades of impact in the fight against preventable blindness and celebrate the organization’s commitment to restoring vision and transforming lives across the globe and here in Dane County. CBI is partnering with the Madison Metropolitan School District to launch a Mobile Vision Van, CBI's Fund-A-Need for World Sight Day 2024. World Sight Day, observed annually on the second Thursday of October, is a global event dedicated to raising awareness about blindness, vision impairment, and the importance of accessible eye care. The Mobile Vision Van initiative, aligned with this year’s World Sight Day theme, "Love Your Eyes, Kids," will deliver essential follow-up eye care directly to students facing barriers like insurance, transportation, and language. The Mobile Vision Van aims to close the care gap for children in Dane County.

This year’s gala is particularly special as we celebrate our 40th Anniversary and aim to raise critical funds to support our work in 2025. Thanks to the generosity of a private donor, every dollar raised will be matched up to $100,000, doubling the impact of every contribution. These funds will enable CBI to continue its mission of eradicating preventable blindness by expanding our reach and implementing innovative programs that transform lives and communities.

The evening will be highlighted by an exclusive performance from the renowned world music band, Funkadesi. Known for their unique blend of Indian bhangra, Bollywood, and folk with reggae, funk, and Afro-Caribbean beats, Funkadesi promises to deliver an electrifying performance that will make this celebration unforgettable. Guests will have the opportunity to network with like-minded CBI supporters, enjoy food from around the world, participate in a silent auction featuring unique items and experiences, and celebrate an evening dedicated to vision and hope.

“As we celebrate this milestone, we are reminded of the incredible progress we’ve made over the last 40 years,” said Reena Chandra, Executive Director of CBI. “This gala is not only a reflection of our past achievements but a stepping stone toward a future where no one suffers from preventable blindness. We are deeply grateful to our supporters and partners, whose dedication makes our work possible.”

Tickets for the 40th Anniversary Gala are now available, and early purchase is encouraged as space is limited. To purchase tickets, learn more about sponsorship opportunities, or make a donation, please visit https://www.combatblindness.org/world-sight-day/.
