Every child deserves to See Clearer, Learn Better, and Dream Bigger. To ensure this, CBI is launching The Bright Eyes Program to bring follow-up eye care directly to Madison students through a mobile eye clinic!
Why Do we Need a Vision Van?
Since 2014, CBI has partnered with the Madison Metropolitan School District (MMSD) to provide vision screenings for all children in 3K- 5K, screening over 26,000 children. However, significant barriers remain for children who fail their initial vision screening. CBI screens more than 3,000 3K-5K students annually, yet only 37% of the students referred for follow-up care receive it. As a result, many children who need glasses or other treatments do not get them, adversely affecting their education and development. “Bright Eyes” will bridge this gap by delivering on-site vision assessments, eyeglass fittings, and referrals for advanced care. Each school visit will serve 12–20 students, improving classroom engagement, academic performance, and overall well-being.

Unfortunately, undiagnosed vision issues often go unnoticed, leaving children to navigate their world in a blur. By providing comprehensive eye care, including screenings and glasses, The Bright Eyes Program ensures that children can see clearly, empowering them to engage confidently with their surroundings and embrace new opportunities.
Learn Better
Good eyesight is directly linked to academic success. Studies show that children with untreated vision problems are more likely to fall behind in school, struggle with reading, and experience reduced confidence in their abilities. With clear vision, children can fully participate in their education—reading books, writing assignments, and focusing on the lessons that shape their futures. The Bright Eyes Program, through the Vision Van, eliminates barriers to learning by bringing essential vision care directly to schools, giving every student a fair chance to thrive academically.
Dream Bigger
When children can see clearly and learn without limitations, they gain the confidence to dream beyond their immediate circumstances. Good eyesight allows them to imagine a future filled with possibility, from pursuing their favorite hobbies to exploring career paths they never thought attainable. With the right tools and support, children can visualize their potential and aspire to achieve great things.
